Our baby girl turned 6 years old on Friday. While she was riding her new bike outside today, she said, “I love to laugh and smile.” And she does. She loves being tickled! It’s basically the only game she wants to play with mommy or daddy. Some kind of running around and when she gets caught she needs to be tickled. She loves telling her sister what to do and doesn’t like it when her sister doesn’t listen. She is a very take-charge kind of girl. Violet does love her siblings and really does help me out when I need an extra hand. I love that she asks questions, about everything. She has been enjoying homeschooling, most days. She really loves knowing she is beginning to read, but doesn’t exactly enjoy the process. Violet loves dressing up and doing lots of girly things, like painting her nails or wanting to put on mommy’s makeup. She has grown a lot this year and we just love her to pieces.

They did a great job!

Yes, everyone says this, but it continues to amaze me how much growth takes place the first year of a baby’s life.
Keith loves lots of attention and he really loves playing with his sisters.
He hasn’t been very vocal the last month, but in the last few days he has been trying out some new sounds.
We had a little gathering with a few of our friends to share some cake and the special day with Keith.
He wasn’t too sure of what to do with that cake. He did seem to like it at first, but then not so much.
We love our little Keith, and it has been such a joy to be his mommy.
I love when the girls tell me, “Mommy, Keith is just so cute!” I couldn’t agree more. We love him to pieces.
Micah had a birthday last week, and we had a fun time with some friends together the weekend after his birthday. On his special day, we all went out as a family to a nearby restaurant. That was a first for us in quite some time. It was nice to all be together on a little outing to celebrate Micah’s day. We are thankful to have lots of sushi restaurants to enjoy in the city.
And we are very thankful for Micah, a great hubby and loving daddy.
Our oldest baby girl, Violet, turned 5 years old on the 23rd of January. She has grown so much in just one short year. She is a good helper, and will usually do it without complaining. She loves her brother and sister, and often pretends to be their mommy. She loves watching princess movies like Rapunzel, Snow White and the The Little Mermaid. Her she is during more of the tense moments during The Little Mermaid.
I should have gotten a picture at the end of the movie, she was very happy they were able to get married and live happily ever after. She is also getting a good imagination, it’s funny to hear the things she comes up with sometimes. She likes making up names for herself and she will pretend to be that person and come and visit me in my house.
We just had a small get together in the evening of her birthday, but she always has lots of fun whenever we have anyone over.
Keith is ready to party!
With our little princess
Her buddy Jasmine
I saw a party popper at the store when I was getting supplies, and it was a good purchase. They definitely make it feel like party! There was so much confetti that flew out of that thing!
Violet requested chocolate cake with chocolate icing. The girl has good taste.
Would you like to bake this cake too? Head over to Katrina’s Kitchen to find the recipe.
Right after we arrived here it was time to celebrate Keira and Katrina’s birthdays. Our friends were gracious enough to invite us over for a little party, even making two cakes. One for each birthday girl.
It was so nice of them to remember their birthdays and it was a great way to make us feel welcome in a new city.
This past week we needed to go to New York City to make an appearance at the Russian embassy in order to get our visas. After the 3 hour drive we had time to get a quick lunch at this cute little restaurant which was right across from the embassy before our meeting. We were somewhat nervous, not knowing what to expect, but the whole ordeal lasted less than half an hour. After we left the place, we felt so good about it, we wanted to skip down the sidewalk. Now we had the rest of the afternoon in front of us. So much to do in so little time. I had made dinner reservations ahead of time since Micah’s birthday is coming up. What better place is there? We decided to get on a bus and head down to the Freedom Tower and the 9/11 Memorials.
We ended up taking a bus down to the tower, which took longer than we thought, but we found it without any problem and with the help of a really nice bus driver. We were just going to see the new tower being built and decided the last second to see the memorials. We thought we would go see them real quick and then head to dinner. Well, give yourself some time if you decide to do it yourself. The ticket was free, but then we had to walk five blocks around to the entrance. Then it seems as if you will be going to a concert with all the lines and mazes we went through. Finally we got to this small building and we thought we were there. Nope, it was a small security terminal. Ok, maybe we are almost there. Well, after a couple more minutes of walking down a maze or two, and then having our free ticket scanned about 5 times, we made it.
It really was very nice, once we got into the memorial area. They are huge and breathtaking.
That took way longer than we had hoped, so we took a taxi back up town toward our restaurant and we made it with plenty of time.
Enjoying a nice dinner with my birthday boy
We had a great day and dinner together. Here are a few pictures of the city at night on our way out.
Just pretend this picture of the Empire State Building isn’t blurry
Let the games begin!…
Time for presents…
Violet loves birthdays, especially her own! She couldn’t wait to have a party and have everyone sing the birthday song TO HER! She has grown up so much in this last year. She really cracks us up with things she says sometimes. Of course I can’t think of anything exactly right now, but I will try to put more of that on here. She loves helping in the kitchen. I love overhearing her with Keira, acting like she is her mommy, saying, careful Keira or don’t do that hunny. Violet LOVES chocolate! Maybe more than me, which is A LOT! She asks for it all day long. Violet cannot wait for mommy to have the baby, she ask often when the baby is coming out of mommies belly. She really wants to hold the baby. Violet loves singing. She is still making up songs about random things. She loves being tickled and playing hide and go seek, especially with Grandpa.
We love our sweet baby girl, who is growing up so quickly!

On thursday the 20th, our baby turned one year old! Keira woke up on her birthday not feeling so well with another cold she had caught a couple days before. Thankfully no parties were planned, just a get together with family for some cake. But after getting dressed the birthday girl started to feel better.
It was turning out to be a nice day outside, so I took the girls outside for some pictures.
On friday the 21st, was my (Katrina) birthday. I turned 28 years old! Where has the time gone? Micah planned some things for the day one of which included us going out to eat. Afterwards we were going to go nearby to see a good friend of mine who we went to the Bible school with and was also in our wedding. Turns out, Micah called Martha and had her and her husband come to the restaurant to meet us. It was a great surprise, and it was so good to catch up and to meet her hubby.
Saturday, we had some cake for both of us birthday girls at my parent’s house. There were way too many candles on my cake though!
This past weekend, my cousin and her family came up for a visit. It was their sons birthday, so we had some cake and celebrated, then later on in the day went over to Knoebels. There was a ton of people there, but in the kiddie section the lines weren’t too bad.
After some yummy cake, naps and a thunderstorm we headed to Knoebels.
We loved having them stay with us for the weekend. It was great being able to catch up and have a good time together. Kids and all. We did get away in the evening just us four adults. Thanks to Micah’s mom for staying with the kids after we put them to bed. By the way, Micah’s mom, Darlene, went home Monday. It was nice having her here with us, the girls really loved having Grammy here to play with them as well.
Last week we went to a birthday party for Violet’s friend Andrei, who also turned 3 years old. He loved opening up his presents, just as much as Violet did! The kids had fun playing together, his mommy made a lot of really good food, and we watched some home videos of Andrei from when he was a little baby until present day. Keira was still sick then so Micah stayed home with her, so Violet and I could go enjoy the party.
On a side note, I took Keira back to the doctor again yesterday to see if she was all better, and the doctor said her ear infection was gone! PTL! In the mornings she has a little bit of congestion still, but she is basically back to normal. Now we need to wait one more week to take her back to get her shots.
And another Happy Birthday to our niece Jenna! Who is also turning 3 today! Violet and Jenna are exactly one month apart. We really enjoyed watching them interact together before we came here, it will be exciting when they can play together again.
Your three girls wish you another good year of learning and adventure in a foreign land, of course with less aches and pains that remind us how we are aging! You are one special husband and daddy! We love you!
Our big girl turned 3 years old yesterday!! Every day she is talking so much more in big long sentences and paragraphs and sometimes just surprises me with how much she knows! She is such a joy and a blessing to our whole family and we love her so much!
We decided to have a small birthday party for her on Sunday night, with two Russian couples. We had lots of food and then she had a fun time opening presents from them and playing with her friend Andrei. And of course we sang to her and had some chocolate cake!
Yesterday the 23rd was her actual birthday, so last night we had some presents from family that she opened up. Thank you family for giving her a special day! She loves opening presents, so she really enjoyed it.
to Katrina’s Dad today!! We know you are probably working hard, like you do every day, but we hope you have a great day and we love you!
This past weekend our friend Julie, had a birthday. We had a fun evening with a bunch of friends celebrating her special day. She and Elisabeth made yummy spaghetti for everyone then we played some games together. I would link Julie’s blog on here, but she doesn’t have one… yet. Right Julie? 🙂 And thanks to Vanya for the pics.
Today our little girl turned two years old. We had a great day celebrating with her, she had some great presents to open thanks to the grandparents and Katrina made a delicious birthday cake. We are so blessed to have such a beautiful little girl! Enjoy some pictures and videos of the day!
Thanks for checking out our blog.
I would like to wish my sister, Rachel, a very happy birthday! We’re sad we aren’t there with you to celebrate, but we know that you will have a good birthday with friends and family in PA. Thanks for being a great sister and aunt! We love you!
