So very tired

We wanted to let everyone know we made it here safe and sound, just exhausted.  We left our place in PA around noon, then it was a 3-4 hour drive to the airport.  We made it to the airport in plenty of time and took off around 7 pm.  The girls did great on the plane.  Keira had a few moments of crying, but nothing that lasted long.  Around 11 pm the girls fell asleep.  Thankfully we had great seats on the plane, where there was place to put a baby bassinet, which ended up coming in really handy.  And there was plenty of room underneath for Violet to spread out and sleep.

I love taking their picture when they are sleeping.  Anyway, the girls slept for about four hours.  Keira was a little cramped so she moved around, but basically stayed asleep the whole time.  Micah and I did not sleep at all.  I might have closed my eyes for a bit, but it wasn’t sleep.  We arrived here in Moscow about 4 am our time.  We got all our baggage, went through passport control and customs very quickly and found our friend waiting for us.  The ride home went by quickly because it was a holiday here in Russia, Women’s Day, and I think I dozed a bit as well as the girls.  It was about 7 am PA time (4pm Moscow time) by the time we made it to our apartment.  While the girls and I settled in a bit, Micah ventured outside.  The girls were in bed around 7 pm here and we went to bed very shortly after.  They only woke up 2 times, and thankfully not for very long.

We are still so tired today, we are hoping to have another good night’s rest so we can adjust as quickly as possible.  It seems like we need to keep moving or we just want to sleep.

Thank you for your thoughts.  Please keep them coming as we adjust back to life here.

That’s all for now, I just want to close my eyes for a second…

Family Weekend

Before we leave in just a day or so for the motherland across the ocean, we were able to go to Belleville with Katrina’s side of the family for their winter weekend vacation.  It was such a nice time of relaxation, laughing and good conversations.  Here are some pictures:

Please be thinking of us on Thursday as we fly across the ocean.  It looks like there might be some winter weather coming to the east coast, so we are hoping our flight doesn’t get delayed.

NYC

This past week we needed to go to New York City to make an appearance at the Russian embassy in order to get our visas.  After the 3 hour drive we had time to get a quick lunch at this cute little restaurant which was right across from the embassy before our meeting.  We were somewhat nervous, not knowing what to expect, but the whole ordeal lasted less than half an hour.  After we left the place, we felt so good about it, we wanted to skip down the sidewalk.  Now we had the rest of the afternoon in front of us.  So much to do in so little time.  I had made dinner reservations ahead of time since Micah’s birthday is coming up.  What better place is there?  We decided to get on a bus and head down to the Freedom Tower and the 9/11 Memorials.

We ended up taking a bus down to the tower, which took longer than we thought, but we found it without any problem and with the help of a really nice bus driver.  We were just going to see the new tower being built and decided the last second to see the memorials.  We thought we would go see them real quick and then head to dinner.  Well, give yourself some time if you decide to do it yourself.  The ticket was free, but then we had to walk five blocks around to the entrance.  Then it seems as if you will be going to a concert with all the lines and mazes we went through.  Finally we got to this small building and we thought we were there.  Nope, it was a small security terminal.  Ok, maybe we are almost there.  Well, after a couple more minutes of walking down a maze or two, and then having our free ticket scanned about 5 times, we made it.

It really was very nice, once we got into the memorial area.  They are huge and breathtaking.

That took way longer than we had hoped, so we took a taxi back up town toward our restaurant and we made it with plenty of time.
