Tuesday
Yesterday, since we didn’t have class because of the holiday, we were able to get out in the morning with Violet and walk around. There are some nice wooded areas around our place that we like to try to explore, so here are some pictures from our adventure. Oh and by the way… the temperature here has been around 0 degrees Celsius and it’s been sunny quite a bit more these past few days. It’s so nice to see the sun and for it to feel warm. We love it. It seems like winter has been here a long while and now we are ready for spring.
International Womens Day
Hi Friends,
Tomorrow we celebrate a big holiday here in Russia, Intl. Womens Day. It is kind of like Valentines Day on steroids. Most Russians will not work Monday or Tuesday. This is the one day out of the year where all men are expected to treat women like queens. We have heard that it is very common for men to give flowers to random women on the street. All over the city, little stands have magically appeared to sell the most popular flower of the season, the tulip. Men are expected to buy flowers or chocolate for all the important women in their lives, so I bought flowers for Katrina, our teacher Viola, our nanny Larissa and our good friend Julie.
Fun days here in Moscow! Thanks for checking out our blog.
Language Evaluation
Hi Friends,
All of last week Katrina & I were evaluated in our progress of learning the Russian language and culture. A very distinguished consultant flew in for the week and we spent time discussing our current schedule, our culture knowledge and future goals. We also sat down with a native speaker and conversed for about 30 minutes. This conversation was recorded and then analyzed by our consultant. After our conversation was analyzed, we sat down with the consultant and discussed how we did. He told us the good things and the bad things, then he gave us some goals to work on for the next six month. Overall, we were very happy with the results. We are both progressing well and with continued hard work, I think we will both end up speaking well.
Thanks to those of you who thought of us during this time, it can be a little stressful but we came out unscathed. Now I guess I should go study. =)
