Getting around Moscow

Hi Friends,

Some of you have been wondering, “How do you get around Moscow if you don’t have a car?” Well, there are five modes of transportation that we use on a regular basis.

Good old fashioned walking!

The Metro - cheap, fast and nicer than New York!

Trolley Bus - We take this everyday to language class

Mashrutka - Only 25 rubles, this will take us directly to IKEA

Normal bus - same function as in the USA

There you have it folks, that is how we get around Moscow. Some days we wish we had a car but most days we don’t. We enjoy walking around, great exercise!

Saturday, in the Park!

Hi Friends,

Well, our sightseeing days are coming to an end as we will be starting language study this week but today we had a chance to visit Saritsena, the estate of Catherine the Great. It went unfinished during her lifetime and wasn’t completed until years after her death. It is a great place to take a leisurely stroll around the grounds. It was a beautiful day, the sun was out and it was around eighty degrees. A perfect day!

Please be thinking of us as we start the long process of learning the Russian language.

Walk to the castle, you can see the top of it in the distance

Violet was ready to get out of her stroller

Catherine's House

No idea who these guys are, but they must have been important

We could have gone in... but we didn't

A really big fountain!

For our Pennsylvania Friends…

We found Dunkin Donuts! Yes, believe it or not, a DD opened up in downtown Moscow recently. It’s the first and only one in this part of the world I think! The design of the store is modern and caters to the teen/college age Muscovites – no old guys drinking coffee here! We probably won’t make it their often because it’s not very close to where we live but it was cool to see. Enjoy the pics!

On an unrelated note - Nice park job!
