Moscow

Our first visitor!

Hi Friends!

This last weekend we were blessed to have our first visitor from the states! Brian, a friend from Pennsylvania, was here in Moscow on business. He had a free day on Saturday so we were able to spend some time with him. We spent some time at our apartment and after Violet woke up from her nap, we went downtown to help him buy some souvenirs for his family. We had dinner at an authentic Uzbek restaurant, which he really enjoyed, then we took him back to his metro stop.

It was such a huge encouragement to have him here – thanks Brian!!

Today…

we saw a few interesting things. Not exactly new for us, but things we haven’t mentioned to you yet. The first thing was this vehicle…

Medical Service Vehicle

We see these cars all the time, and they kind of make me chuckle every time I see one just because they look so old fashioned. And I guess they really are…old. But they still use them. This could possibly be used for bringing a doctor to see a patient at their home. And they do have other ambulance type vehicles which look more like a mini van.

Also we saw this guy…

A road policeman

These guys walk up and down the sidewalks or on the corners of streets with their big wands. And if you don’t watch out they will point it at you and you need to pull over. These guys will check your car documents and make sure everything is right and in order. And we heard they are quite willing to take bribes.

Also we had some cold and crazy weather today…

This morning on the way to class it was raining and really windy. After class on the way home the sun was out. Then a few hours later it looked like this…

Snow!

And then not long after that…

Sun!

We thought ok that was cool, a little snow storm. But then a little later we saw this outside…

More snow! Way more.

And then…

More sun! But with the dark clouds looming nearby.

Very pretty!

First snow

That’s right! Today it was actually snowing. Not enough that it was covering the ground, but just tiny little flakes. The weather channel.com says it is 2 degrees C but feels like -4 degrees C with the wind today. Brrr! We don’t mind though, Micah and I both enjoy this kind of weather more than the heat we had this summer!

Can't really see the snow falling, but the leaves are a nice color.
