Yesterday I went with a friend here to get my hair cut. It ended being a bit shorter than I had in mind, but what can you do when you can’t explain exactly what you want. I was desperate for a change and with it being so hot, now was the right time.
Never ending smoke
So the other day when we thought the smoke couldn’t get any worse, we were wrong. Today looks like a huge cloud has just settled over us, we can barely see the buildings across the street!

Our friend Ivor explained it best – “You may or may not have heard of the forest and peat fires that are burning all across Russia. All though not threatened by the fire, when the wind is blowing in the right direction, or in this case the wrong direction, the city gets blanketed with the smoke or smog form these fires. So we are forced to stay indoors and keep our windows closed.”
This weekend we will be staying in our apartment to wait out the smoke, we are hoping for rain!
More smog
Yesterday the smog here was really bad! And it just got worse as the night went on. We kept all our windows closed, but that just made it really warm in the apartment. Hopefully soon the nearby peat bog fires will go out and the heat will cool down. Thankfully today the smog wasn’t as bad, but it’s still very hot.
